My observation is that at 12 pellets begin to swell or fall apart after about 30 min in your smoker they re pretty darn dry.
Ash content is measured as a percentage of weight and should be at most 1.
Spread out a couple pounds of pellets on a cookie sheet and bake them at 200 for about 30 min if you weigh before and after the diff is your moisture content most pellets are 6 8 moisture content.
Then the pellets start to expand and it is amazing how the water gets soaks up.

I m not too experienced with goldfish feed but if i found a pellet that expanded when wet i d research it s value and consider to go shopping for something new.
